Works perfectly for tamping and leaves a cool impression in the puck, but its got a lot of moving parts which grinds slip into, and the grove for the rings almost always holds excess coffee so the ring shape doesn’t always take.

The ripples on the tamp bottom basically cuts into the espresso puck and leaves a lot of coffee stuck to the tamper grooves. Flat bottom tampers do not have this problem thus do not need to be cleaned. Adding an extra cleaning step to your espresso workflow when it has little to no benefit over a flat bottom tamper is not worth it. Build quality was decent.
Great little tamper. Not much to go into detail on this. I'm a more amateur home barista, but this little guy does what's needed. Looks great with the wood inlay handle, has a nice weight to it, makes little waves in the coffee grounds to help water spread.
